"Meet the Club" Luncheon
Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004
Union Jack's Cafe
Portland, Pa.
The club had an exceptionally nice outing when we hosted lunch at a
British restaurant for a family of MG lovers from New Zealand.
Ron and Jacqueline Blackwell from Nelson, New Zealand, and their
13-year-old son Andrew were in the area for Jacqui’s reunion at Pen
Argyl High School, where she graduated as an exchange student. Ron found
the club through our website and sent an email, asking if he could meet
us.
A lunch was set up at Union Jack’s Cafe in Portland, Pa. The weather
was with us, and every club member arrived in an MG so we could show off
our cars to our guests. (One MGB GT, four MGBs, two 1952 MG TDs, and a
TR-6. New club members Marty and Marybeth Chamberlain braved the trip up
from Nazareth with the top down on their TD!)
Ron couldn’t bring his 1976 Sandglow MGB-GT, of course, but he did
bring a laptop computer, and after lunch showed off the photos of his
MGs, past and present.
Stefan, restaurant owner and chef from Yorkshire, spent some time
talking with us after serving up 22 fine English meals. Fish and chips,
steak and onion, pork pies and shepherd pie were among the authentically
British foods we enjoyed.
Dale presented club caps and a club decal to the Blackwells, who thus
became honorary members of the club.
Safe to say, a good time was had by all, and the after-lunch talk
quickly drifted to discussions of MGs.
(And, while we were having lunch, someone walking by put a note on Kim
de Bourbon’s 1966 MGB, expressing an interest in buying it. She did
not call the phone number, but kept the note . . . So if anyone is
looking to sell an early B, she has the number of someone who is
looking!)
