HELLERTOWN 2005: WHAT A WONDERFUL SHOW!

By Dick Horn
2005 Club President

The 12th Annual British Motorcar Gathering (known to all as the Hellertown show) has come and gone, but what a show! I understand we had 91 pre-registered cars and 102 cars registering the day of the show, for a total of 193! That is just wonderful!

I happened to run into a prior member of the club over the weekend who praised the show saying, “we are approaching national status.” I’d say that’s quite a compliment, and he also asked for a membership application, so that should be one more for the club!

It goes without saying that to pull-off a show like this takes team work, and to all those who gave of their time and energy, a big THANK YOU goes out to you.

This year we used a different way of tallying the votes, thanks to Kim and Chaz de Bourbon. They had worked this method out the previous year at the “Lord of the Manor” show, and it really made life easier. It made life so easy that we had the results in so soon that the prizes were given out and people started to leave a little earlier than usual. Ed Haas actually had a woman complain to him that the show was ending too soon!

I also received a complaint about the Mini category which we’ll have to look into next year, but all in all it was a great show and one that we can be proud of, from the way we registered the cars and parked them to the great music, it all came together wonderfully!

Major Media Coverage

We’re not sure we agree with the headline writer’s choice of the first two adjectives, but we’re still pleased with the coverage the club received in The Morning Call the day after our show. (below) John and Ellen Andrews (right) were featured in the story, as were William McCarthy and Ken Beck.
The photo printed with the article shows Bill and his 1955 TF in the background, with Marty and Marybeth Chamberlain’s 1952 TD in the foreground. Great publicity for our club, all around!
