2006 Keystone Region MG Club Outing
to Union Jack's Inn on the Manatawny

Members of the Keystone Region MG Club took a drive through the back roads of upper Berks County, Pa., on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006. Our destination was Union Jack's Inn on the Manatawny.

Rally master was Rob VanSyckle, who had planned to lead us in his 1947 MG TD, but injured his leg and ended up driving his 1999 Corvette, which is easier to drive. We had a fantastic turnout, with 16 British cars on the road: Two MGAs, nine MGBs, 1 MGB-GT, 1 Midget, and three Triumphs (from the British Car Club of Lehigh Valley.) And two Corvettes, including Van's.

The weather was just fine for top-down driving. The group met up at the Turkey Hill Mini Market in Hereford, and we quickly filled up the parking lot there with our colorful little cars. After a quick drivers' meeting, we took off down the road.

The first sight to see was the house built to look like a boat, and Van made sure we all had time to see it. Then it was off on the windy, hilly two-lanes through Huff's Church and the Oley Valley farmlands, to Pleasantville, where we cross two covered bridges before arriving at Union Jack's Inn on the Manatawny.

We stopped briefly outside the pub for a group photo in front of the London taxi parked in front. Then to the cozy interior, where our group pretty much took over the booths in the bar area and enjoyed a nice late afternoon lunch or snack.

The Keystone Region MG Club, Inc., is incorporated under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is a non-profit organization run solely by volunteers to promote interest in and help foster the preservation of MGs and other British motor cars.
