2006 Keystone Region MG Fall Tech Session

The Keystone Region MG Club held its second tech session of the year on Saturday, Nov. 11, to give club members a chance to take a look at their cars up on a lift and to see how headlights can be adjusted. The event was hosted by club technical director Ken Beck and Tom Himmelsbach, partners in K&T Vintage Sports Cars in Allentown.

There was a great turnout of cars and members, most of whom brought their MGs to the shop, although a Cobra and a Healey were also spotted. In addition to taking look at the cars and exploring different methods of getting MGB headlight trim rings off so they could be adjusted, the club enjoyed a pizza lunch, courtesy of the club treasury.

For the lift inspections, Tom used gradual incline ramps, custom-made to allow low-to-the-ground sports cars to be driven onto the lift. Six MGBs were inspected: Bruce Markle's 1969, Bill Page's 1972, Dick Horn's 1973, Bill Webb's 1974½, Lyn Stryker's 1970, and Stephen Redash's B.

At the other end of the garage, Ken supervised the headlight alignment session, using "Lev-L-Lite" headlight aiming devices which attach by suction to the lamps. Using the devices, which feature levels and a mirrored alignment scope, was easy. The hard part was taking off the notoriously difficult headlight trim rings, and putting them back on. (The adjustment screws are behind the trim rings.) Four owners adjusted their lamps: Dick Horn. Bruce Markle, Lyn Stryker and Bill Webb.

The rest of the members in attendance enjoyed watching the procedings, poking under the cars that went up on the lift, and nosing around the K&T garage.

The Keystone Region MG Club, Inc., is incorporated under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is a non-profit organization run solely by volunteers to promote interest in and help foster the preservation of MGs and other British motor cars.
